PM takes cabinet into confidence on campaign against Ali Musa

Published Updated

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani on Wednesday here took the Cabinet into confidence about the ongoing malicious campaign against Syed Ali Musa Gilani, MNA.

The Prime Minister stated that Syed Ali Musa Gilani, MNA has been allegedly involved in influencing the allocation of drug quota done by the Director General Ministry of Health.

The Prime Minister stated that various inquiries conducted by the departments including one by the Senate Standing Committee on Interior made no mention of influence exercised by Syed Ali Musa Gilani in its findings.

It may be mentioned here that an Inquiry Committee was set up under the directions of Senate Standing Committee on Interior, which included Federal Inspector Drug, Deputy Director of FIA, and the Chairman Quality Control Islamabad.

The findings of the Committee also did not find any clue of Syed Ali Musa Gilani's involvement.

The Chairman of Senate Standing Committee on Interior also constituted another committee consisting of joint team of experts, FIA, Chairman Quality Control and Federal Inspector Drugs to ascertain the substance used by pharmaceutical companies in the country.

The report of this Committee also reached the same conclusions with no mention of Syed Ali Musa Gilani.

A Joint Investigation Committee constituted by the then Minister of Health consisted of Joint Secretary Planning & Development, Ministry of Health, Deputy Secretary, Narcotics Control Division and Director (Enforcement) Anti-Narcotics Force with terms of reference to establish the violation of the procedure in granting quota to the recipients.

The findings of the Joint Investigation team found no evidence of Syed Ali Musa Gilani's involvement in the case.

It is also relevant to mention that Ephedrine is a case to be dealt under Drug Act 1976 and not under Control of Narcotics Substance Act 1977 because Ephedrine is locally manufactured controlled chemical and distributed yearly by the Ministry of Health under Drug Act 1976.

It is also true beyond any doubt that there is no evidence in Pakistan that Ephedrine is converted to manufacture ecstasy or cocaine in Pakistan but there is no such facility ever traced in Pakistan.

The local price of Ephedrine is about Rs. 7000 per kg and figure of billions of rupees is a conscious effort to mislead the people.

The Prime Minister said that earlier his elder son Syed Abdul Qadir Gilani, MPA, was implicated in the Hajj scam. The Chief Justice of Pakistan in this case directed the authorities to register a case against the MNA who leveled allegations merely on the basis of hearsay.

The Cabinet expressed its grave concern over the character assassination of the family members of the Prime Minister and expressed the resolve to defend the case of such victimization by presenting correct facts and figures at all forums.
