ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court on Tuesday hinted at day to day proceedings from Mary 8 on award of Reko Diq mining lease issue.
Ahmer Bilal Sofi, counsel for the Balochistan Government, also apprised the bench that Shahid Hamid had been appointed as arbitrator to represent their case at the International Chambers of Commerce (ICC) in Paris.
The three-member bench comprising Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry, Justice Khilji Arif Hussain and Justice Tariq Parvez resumed hearing of an application moved by Dr Abdul Haq Baloch, a petitioner in the main Reko Diq case, seeking initiation of criminal proceedings against the provincial government for violating the court's orders of May 25, 2011, and also seeking a restraining order against the provincial government not to appear simultaneously at international arbitration fora.
During previous hearings, the court had directed the Balochistan Government through its counsel to send letters to the International Chambers of Commerce (ICC) with headquarters in Paris and the International Center for Settlement of Investment Disputes (ICSID), based in Washington DC US, requesting them not to take any further steps in arbitration proceedings over award of Reko Diq mining lease issue, till such time the Supreme Court of Pakistan dispose of the matter among parties.
The provincial government was also asked to seek extension of nomination of arbitrators after it was apprised by Advocate General Balochsitan Amanullah Kinrai that Tethyan Copper Company Australia (TCCA) had taken the issue at the ICC and the CSID under international laws.
Despite repeated notices, the TCCA did not appear before the bench.
