ISLAMABAD: Foreign Minister Hina Rabbani Khar on Friday said that the government with the help of opposition would protect the national interests of the country.
Talking to media persons outside the Parliament House, Hina Rabbani Khar hoped that all the political parties in Parliament would evolve consensus on devising new terms of engagements with the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) and the International Security Assistance Force (ISAF).
She said the new independent foreign policy would have to be formulated with utmost care keeping the country's interests supreme.
"The government needs the backing of the Parliament before finalizing new terms of engagements with the NATO and the ISAF. It is a test of collective wisdom of the nation".
The Parliament must guide the government as without the backing of whole, its position remains weak during talks with any country. All the political parties must prove that for protecting national interests - the whole nation as well as the Parliament are on a same page, she added.
Responding to a question she said only the Parliament had the powers to formulate an independent foreign policy.
