West Indies win toss, bat in first Twenty20

Published Updated

west-indies GROS ISLET: The West Indies won the toss and elected to bat in the first of their two Twenty20 internationals against Australia at Beausejour Cricket Ground here on Tuesday.

The match comes two days after the tourists won the last of five one-day internationals by 30 runs to square the opening series of the tour 2-2.

James Pattinson and Daniel Christian both came into the Australia team, with George Bailey taking over the captaincy for the shortest format from Shane Watson, who filled in for the injured Michael Clarke during the one-day series.

The West Indies were without Andre Russell, who was ruled out after battling a hamstring injury during the one-day series.

It will be the first time the West Indies have played a T20 international for five months and for both sides the main concern will be to get in some crucial practice ahead of the World Twenty20 in Sri Lanka in September.

Teams:

West Indies: Johnson Charles, Dwayne Smith, Darren Bravo, Dwayne Bravo, Kieron Pollard, Carlton Baugh (wkt), Darren Sammy (capt), Nkrumah Bonner, Krishmar Santokie, Garey Mathurin, Sunil Narine.

Australia: David Warner, Shane Watson, Matthew Wade (wkt), Michael Hussey, David Hussey, George Bailey (capt), Daniel Christian, Brett Lee, James Pattinson, Clint McKay, Xavier Doherty.

Umpires: GO Brathwaite (WIS) and PJ Nero (WIS).

TV umpire: N Duguid (WIS).

Match referee: AJ Pycroft (ZIM).

Reserve umpire: JS Wilson (WIS).
