ISLAMABAD: Director General of Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), Arif Mehmood on Wednesday said the intensity of ongoing dust-storm is likely to subside or end during the next 24 hours in the Federal Capital as well as other parts of the country.
Talking to APP, the dust-storm started from Sindh especially Karachi where the flight operation was cancelled due to low visibility but now the weather was clear.
About the dust-storm phenomenon, the DG Met said the winds blowing from desert areas towards cities bring dust particles in a large amount and cause hazy and dusty atmosphere. The dust particles prevail in the air when the wind stops blowing.
Such dust-storms are hazardous for health especially Asthma patients who have to be cautious and protect themselves from dust, he said.
He said dry weather is expected in most parts of the country during next three to four days as no weather system is prevailing in the country which can cause rain.
Due to prolonged winter, the impact on crops will not be very severe but it will cause a one-week delay in harvesting process of wheat crop, the DG said.
Pollen count in the Cpital on Wednesday was 3531 per cubic meter which is in very high category. However, pollen concentration of Paper Mulberry is expected to cross 10,000 per cubic meter in the air during the current week.
The maximum temperatures recorded during last 24 hours were: Islamabad 19 C, Lahore 23 C, Quetta 10 C, Karachi 31 C, Peshawar 21 C, Muzaffarabad 22 C, Gilgit 10 C, Murree 9 C, Multan 25 C and Faisalabad 22C. The lowest minimum temperature was recorded at Kalat -7C.
The amount of rainfall recorded during last 24 hours was : Gupis 19 mm, Bunji 13mm, Astore & Drosh 12mm, Skardu 11mm, Kalam & Garidupatta 10mm and Chitral 8mm.
