ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Dr.Firdous Ashiq Awan on Friday said that Prime Minister had only expressed his views within the constitutional limits about letter issue and the statement should not be viewed as confrontation with judiciary.
Talking to media at the Parliament House, the minister said it was Pakistan People's Party which gave constitution to the country and its Prime Minster could not take any step to violate the constitution.
She said it would not be appropriate to say that talking about constitution and law would create conflict like situation among institutions.
"Prime Minister has exercised his right within limit of constitution" she said.
The minister said PPP always believed in rule of law and respect of judiciary, adding those who were aspiring for confrontation between the government and judiciary would be disappointed once again.
Replying to a question, she said it was Prime Minister's prerogative whether to write letter or not to Swiss authorities.
She said immunity to the President was given by the parliament, "if the parliament withdraw this immunity then Prime Minister would not wait for a single minute to write letter".
Dr. Firdous said question of Presidential immunity was being raised because the President belongs to PPP."The immunity issue would not question if the President was from any other party".
Answering a question, she said Presidential address to parliament for the fifth consecutive year would be a historic moment which would further strengthen foundation of democracy in the country.
