Bokhari, Baloch elected Chairman, Deputy Chairman Senate unopposed

ISLAMABAD: Senators on Monday elected Syed Nayyer Hussain Bokhari and Sabir Baloch as Chairman and Deputy Chairman of the Upper House of the Parliament, respectively.

Both the leaders were elected unopposed as no other candidates had filed nomination papers to contest the top Senate slots.

After the announcement of their election, Presiding Officer Senator Afrasiab Khattak administered oath to the newly-elected Chairman Nayyer Hussain Bokhari who then took the seat and administered oath to Deputy Chairman Sabir Baloch.

Bokhari, who had been a PPP MNA and then a Senator, also served the Upper House as Leader of the House.

Hailing from the federal capital, he is a lawyer by profession. He was elected to the National Assembly in 2002 general election from one of the two seats from the capital.

After losing 2008 general election, he was awarded the party ticket for the Senate and was elected to the Upper House where he was later made Leader of the House.

On his appreciable performance and commitment to the party, the leadership reposed confidence in him for one of the top most offices of the state.

Sabir Baloch, the newly-elected Deputy Chairman, hails from Balochistan and a devoted Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) worker and there is hope that he will be putting in maximum to normalize the situation in the province.
