ISLAMABAD: The National Assembly Standing Committee on Interior Tuesday recommended linking State Bank, National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) and Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) with biometric system.

The meeting of the committee on Interior was held under the Chairmanship of Raja Khurram Shahzad Nawaz, MNA.

Agenda, discussed in the meeting included briefing on affairs of FIA and National Police Foundation. The Additional Director General, FIA, briefed the Committee about historical background, vision/mission, mandate, organogram, SOPs, performance, challenges faced by FIA and way forward.

FIA had voluminous mandate Anti-Corruption, Anti Money Laundering, Immigration Control, Anti Human Trafficking, Counter Terrorism, IPR Violations, Cyber Crimes, Fraud & Forgery, Spurious Drugs, NCB-Interpol and 111 Sections of PPC.

He also briefed about the sanctioned strength, filled and vacant posts of FIA. The Committee desired to provide complete employees data and list of deputation staff.

On a question regarding recruitment on vacant posts, the Committee showed dissatisfaction about the working and performance of recruiting agencies UTS, OCS etc and asked FIA to call recruitment agencies to appear before the Committee.

He shed light on present situation of huge human trafficking and general deportees. The Committee recommended providing full detail of fake accounts.

A Forensic Laboratory should be established provided with the latest equipment and experienced staff. The Committee also required investigating the issue regarding purchase of expired chemicals by OGDCL in Sui.

The Committee recommended providing complete expenditure on court cases and results of these cases. It also pointed out that public was deprived of their deposits by fraudulent cash withdrawals by utilizing stolen particulars of account holders and asked FIA to investigate and report in that regard.

The Managing Director briefed the Committee regarding functions, resources, financials, achievements, housing scheme of the National Police Foundation established in 1975 as a trust. It was working under Board of Directors and headed by Managing Director who is serving Inspector General Police.

It is self-financing body being run without any budgetary grants from the government. Foundation provides educational scholarships, funeral charges, dowry charges and vocational training institutes.

The Committee desired National Police Foundation to provide full detailed report about the grievances/issues of residents of E-11 and O-9 Housing Schemes.

The Committee also desired to provide the detail of commercialization of residential plots, green belts, and community Hall and school against the law.

Members/MNAs/Mover Sher Akbar Khan, Mehr Ghulam Muhammad Lali, Malik Karamat Ali Khokhar, Sardar Talib Hassan Nakai, Ms. Nafeesa Inayatullah Khan Khattak, Nawabzada Shah Zain Bugtti, Syed Iftikhar Ul Hassan, Mohammad Pervaiz Malik, Nadeem Abbas, Ms. Marriyum Aurangzeb, Syed Agha Rafiullah, Nawab Muhammad Yousuf Talpur, Asmatullah and the senior officers from the Ministry of Interior, FIA, National Police Foundations with their staff attended the meeting.
