ISLAMABAD: Minister for Information Technology and Telecommunication Dr Khalid Maqbool on Monday said the present government was committed to ensure digitalization, considering it the only way forward to keep pace with the global developments.
Addressing a ceremony on the launch of report on impact of telecom sector on Pakistan's economy by Telenor Group here, the minister said Information and Communication Technology (ICT) was the backbone of digital transformation in the country and telecom was a sector enabling other sectors to digitalize processes and create ease of connectivity.
Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui said the government was working to build knowledge economy in the country and telecom sector had a role to play in achieving this ambition which was evident from the findings of this report.
He said according to Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA), 75% cellular tele-density in Pakistan gives the hope of reaching inclusions milestones sooner than later.
The role of telecom sector in bringing millions of undeserved people into the folds of digital and financial inclusion had been remarkable, he said.
The minister said connectivity was the backbone of industries and sectors that empowers individuals with increased access to information and fast response rate.
He said telecom sector had contributed immensely towards socioeconomic development of Pakistan.
