LAHORE: Punjab Governor Mohammad Sarwar has said that the government does not want any confrontation with the opposition parties, but it will stick firmly to its stance on accountability.

Addressing the inaugural ceremony of Lahore-Abdul Hakeem Motorway at Jaranawala Interchange on Sunday, he said the government was unfazed by the opposition protests and the train marches while Prime Minister Imran Khan was determined to ensure accountability of all.

"If the opposition believes that NAB is overstepping its mandate, the government is ready for rational and meaningful dialogue in the parliament," he said, adding that the process of accountability will not stop. The governor said that the corrupt would not be able to escape accountability by criticising NAB and other institutions. He said that the country was faced with many challenges, but the government would steer the nation out of all crises under the leadership of Prime Minister Imran Khan.

He said that it was unfortunate that politicians looted and plundered resources of the country in the name of serving masses in the past. He said the country today faced myriads of problems due to corruption by such people. He said NAB carried out investigations and judiciary passed verdicts against Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leadership, but it never criticised institutions. He said the PTI believed in meritocracy, de-politicisation and autonomy of institutions. He said that clean drinking water would be provided by the Punjab Aab-e-Pak Authority.

He said that roads play vital role in mobility and connectivity of countries, adding that the government would ensure that untapped potential of China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) projects was fully harnessed. The governor said Imran Khan was translating "Do Nahi Aik Pakistan" (Not two but one Pakistan) into a reality as per his promise with people of Pakistan. MNA Amir Dogar, Nawab Sher Waser and Khurram Shehzad were also present.
