KARACHI: The Sindh Labour and Human Resources department with the technical and consultative support of United Nations International Children's Emergency Fund (UNICEF) would conduct a child labour survey in Sindh, said Sindh Minister for Labour and Human Resources Ghulam Murtaza Baloch.

This he said while talking to a delegation of UNICEF at his office here on Thursday, said a statement.

Talking to delegation, the Minister expressed hope that the child labour survey would be completed by this December. Sindh would be first province in Pakistan to conduct child labour survey, he added.

Our political leadership has a clear vision to provide best health, education and other care facilities to laborers and their families as well to enhance their living standard, he said.

We are taking all possible measures to implement labour laws to discourage child labour in Sindh, he added.

He has asked all stakeholders should come forward for eradication of child labour from Sindh.

Chief of Field Office UNICEF Cristino Brugiolo, Sindh Secretary Labour Rasheed Ahmed Solangi, Director Labour Saeed Sualeh and other officers were also present on the occasion.

Rasheed Ahmed Solangi briefed the delegation regarding steps taken by the Sindh Labour department to make Sindh a model province in Pakistan ensuring it a child labour free province.

On this occasion, Ghulam Murtaza Baloch suggested to hold seminars to create awareness about child labour and to motivate the parents to send them to schools for their better future.

He said that in various medical and engineering colleges, a certain number of labourers class children were getting free of cost education.

It was also decided in the meeting that beside Karachi, awareness seminars would also be held in Hyderabad and Mirpurkhas.
