Business community welcomes halt to FBR raids

LAHORE: Lahore Chamber of Commerce & Industry (LCCI) on Tuesday welcomed the halt to FBR raids at business places and hoped that it would normalise the situation.
LCCI President Almas Hyder, Senior Vice President Khawaja Shahzad Nasir and Vice President Faheem-ur-Rehman Saigal told APP here that the government deserved appreciation for stopping raids by officials of the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) at the business premises.
They said the FBR raids were not solution to the problems and would not help enhance the tax base, adding that they were creating panic among the business community.
However, they added, situation would improve now as the Minister of State for Revenue Hammad Azhar had directed the FBR to stop raiding business premises till March 31, 2019.
Lahore Chamber's office-bearers also suggested formation of a committee to resolve this issue on permanent basis, adding that proposed committee comprising government officials and stakeholders would help resolve this issue.
They said that business community wanted to pay tax but a good mechanism would have to be adopted.
