ECP disqualifies Karachi deputy mayor Arshad Vohra

The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) disqualified on Wednesday Karachi Deputy Mayor Arshad Vohra for violating the Constitution and switching political parties.
The verdict was announced by chief election commissioner who had previously reserved the bench's decision, local media reported. Following the disqualification, MQM-P Senator Mian Attique said that the decision was a victory for the party. The senator added that the the next deputy mayor will be from MQM-P.
A petition was filed by Muttahida Qaumi Movement – Pakistan (MQM-P) after Vohra won an MQM-P ticket and later joined the Pak Sarzameen Party (PSP). Vohra had been elected chairman from the Union Council 49.
The petition was filed under Section 36 of the Local Government Act 2013 against Vohra. In his petition, Farooq Sattar argued that Vohra had violated laws by joining another political party. Sattar pleaded the ECP to de-seat Vohra as deputy mayor.
