ISLAMABAD: Former Foreign Secretary of Pakistan Najamud Din Sheikh has said that no sanctions can be imposed on Pakistan under the US or EU laws if Pakistan procures gas from Iran by constructing its own gas pipeline with its own resources.
Talking to Radio Pakistan, he said Turkey is already buying gas from Iran, therefore no discriminatory treatment could be meted out to Pakistan.
He said no political pressure could be exerted on Pakistan under the US laws.
He maintained that Pakistan has not done any investment in Iran in this deal, therefore, the United States cannot impose sanctions on Pakistan.
Najamud Din Sheikh said this development could harm Pak-US relations but he hoped that under the current circumstances the United States will not deteriorate its relations with Pakistan.
