TOKYO: Tokyo stocks were up 0.45 percent by noon Friday, boosted by improved market sentiment on the liquidity provided by central banks globally.
The Nikkei 225 index at the Tokyo Stock Exchange closed the morning session up 44.00 points at 9,751.37 following gains on Wall Street.
The Topix index of all first-section issues rose 3.67 points, or 0.44 percent, to 835.21.
"The trend of risk-taking is continuing", Yumi Nishimura, senior market analyst at Daiwa Securities, told Dow Jones Newswires.
"Although US ISM data fell below expectations, the US stocks only pared gains," she said, referring to a key indicator for the manufacturing sector compiled by the Institute for Supply Management.
Gains were led by the brokerage and real estate sectors. Nomura Holdings was up 1.62 percent at 375 yen, while Sumitomo Realty & Development added 2.84 percent to 1,880 yen.
A weaker yen was also supporting shares, dealers said, but automakers retreated from earlier gains, with Toyota falling 1.3 percent to 3,290 yen, Nissan down 1.6 percent at 814 yen and Honda off 0.8 percent at 3,065 yen.
The dollar was trading at 81.26 yen in Tokyo, up from 81.10 yen in New York late Thursday.
The euro bought $1.3316 and 108.20 yen compared with $1.3311 and 107.97 yen in New York.
