To boost the value addition in the field of textile garments by establishing industrial stitching units under public-private partnership, the Ministry of Commerce and Textile (Textile Division) and Small and Medium Enterprises Development Authority (SMEDA) have signed a bilateral agreement.
The SMEDA officials said that SMEDA would execute the phase-1 of the Public Sector Development Programme (PSDP) project '1000 Industrial Stitching Units' of the Ministry of Commerce & Textile at the cost of Rs 350.545 million within three years. Under the agreement, SMEDA will execute the first phase to establish 150 industrial stitching units as per its own policy and procedures and according to the approved PC-1. It will design an operation manual for the project and will not transfer the project to any other party/department/executing agency, but execute the project as per its mandate and policy.
On behalf of the Ministry of Commerce & Textile (MoC&T), senior joint secretary Masoodul Hassan Qureshi signed the agreement for the first phase while General Manager Outreach (GMOR) Javed Iqbal Khattak signed as a representative of SMEDA at a ceremony held in SMEDA head office in Lahore. Those present on the occasion included: Chaudhry Ahmad Mansoor (GM-Monitoring), Nadia Jehangir (GM-Policy Planning) and Shehryar Tahir (DGM).
