At a graceful ceremony, the Fifth Maritime Patrol Vessel PMSS Kashmir built in China for Pakistan Maritime Security Agency (PMSA) was formally inducted, here Friday.
Azad Jammu & Kashmir (AJK) President Sardar Masood Khan was chief guest while federal secretaries, senior military and provincial officials attended the ceremony.
PMSS Kashmir is equipped with state of the art machinery, customized equipment and weapons to effectively undertake maritime law enforcement operations.
Pakistan Maritime Security Agency Director General Rear Admiral Zaka Ur Rehman, during his welcome address, highlighted that in response to evolving maritime challenges, law enforcement imperatives and national obligations, a capacity enhancement plan was proposed by PMSA and subsequently approved by federal government. He said that induction of another latest state of the art ship in PMSA is an event of unique significance, depicting commitment and resolve of PMSA towards safeguarding CPEC and infallible maritime security.
PMSA head also said that his agency is committed not only to enforce national jurisdiction and sovereignty in the Maritime Zones but also to protect Pakistan's economic interests in the EEZ. He said PMSS Kashmir, as it implies, is a symbol of solidarity with Pakistan's integral part Kashmir. It is recognition of efforts of people of Kashmir who are engaged in a heroic struggle and continue to lay supreme sacrifices for their right of self-determination in line with the UN resolution.
AJK President Sardar Masood Khan, in his address, congratulated PMSA on historic induction of the said ship. He appreciated the enthusiasm and commitment of PMSA as well as Chinese Shipyard, which resulted in construction and induction of the ship. He appreciated the role of Pakistan Maritime Security Agency not only for law enforcement but also for safeguarding maritime economic interests of Pakistan.
The chief guest also visited various sections of the ship where he was briefed by Commanding Officer of PMSS Kashmir on its capabilities. He highly appreciated the quality and capabilities of various equipments.-PR
