The cloth and shoes markets in Firdous, Hashtnagri, Dalazak Road, Meena Bazaar, Karimpura, Shaheen Bazaar, Kochi Bazaar and Saddar Road have are attractive places for Eid shopping.
However, massive load shedding is affecting the business of the tailors and most of them have stopped booking more orders. Several youth told this scribe they would not be able to wear new clothes on the upcoming Eidul Fitr, as tailors are not ready for sewing their suits due to power outages. Current situation has increased the demand for readymade clothes, whose prices have been gone up manifold. The public and private sector employees are waiting for the end of the month when they will be paid salaries and then they will to Eid shopping.
In the meanwhile, the announcement of the Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi for the payment of an honorarium equal to three basic pays to all federal government employees has broadened the prospects of the Eid shopping for such employees. On the other hand, the shopkeepers have displayed readymade clothes of different designs and common men are facing difficulties owing to sparing prices of their favourite items.
Some buyers are going to Charsadda for the purchase of shoes as many visit local shoe markets of Sikandarpura, Jehangirpura and Namak Mandi. Furthermore, due to the ongoing work on the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) Project and digging of roads for the purpose, people prefer buying shoes, clothes and other shopping items in the markets of their respective localities and the markets of Saddar and University Roads.
