Chief Justice Mian Saqib Nisar-headed bench of Supreme Court ordered Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Healthcare Commission to shutdown the clinics of all quacks within one week. The SC's three-member bench comprising of CJP M Saqib Nisar, Justice Umar Ata Bandial and Justice Syed Mansoor Ali Shah on Friday took the case against quacks in different parts of the KP province and ordered provincial Healthcare Commission chairman to close down clinics of all quacks.
The bench gave him one week to take a province-wide action against quacks playing with lives of people. The CJP grilled Healthcare Commission's chairman for not doing enough work against quack doctors and remarked, "You draw a salary of Rs500,000 but your output is zero. It is your duty to take action on this important matter as it involves human lives."
The CJP wondered what kind of the province KP is, where the Chief Secretary earns Rs 0.18 million while the Healthcare Commission chairman is getting a huge monthly salary of Rs0.5 million.
He sought comprehensive inquiry report on this key issue after he was told by the chairman that nearly 1500 quacks were working in the province. The chairman told CJP that action had been taken against 122 clinics run by quacks and all have been sealed.
Upon this, the Chief Justice remarked that quacks have been ruining lives of people and such unlawful practice can't be allowed. He said if anyone wants a stay order then they should come to the Supreme Court.
In another case related to Protocol, the CJP expressed satisfaction over performance of Inspector General of Police Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Salahuddin Khan Mehsud regarding improvement in security situation in the province.
Submitting his detailed report in Supreme Court's Peshawar registry on Friday, IGP KP told CJP that security protocol from 1,769 undeserved persons has been withdrawn on the court's orders.
At this, the CJP commended Mehsud saying: "You have done excellent work. Thank you." He also expressed satisfaction over conduct and good work of Chief Secretary Azam Khan.
After appearing in the court room, IGP Mehsud told media persons that CJP had praised his force. He said his appreciation by the apex court is in fact praise for entire police force.
He said police are already working on a plan to withdraw unnecessary security provided to influential and public figures. He said remaining security cover to undeserved people would also be withdrawn in phases.
On Thursday last, the CJP had ordered IGPs to withdraw security protocol granted to unrelated persons in all the provinces.
In another case relating to supply of potable water in KP province, the apex court ordered concerned authorities to collect water samples from different locations and get them tested from a reputable Punjab laboratory to check their quality. He also asked officials present in court how they would get testing done when the KP does not have required laboratory or technical machinery for it.
The apex court also heard the plea of a woman who has been seeking her 'haq mehr' for the past several decades and ordered authorities to assist her.
