The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Friday initiated action against some high-profile individuals including former President General Pervez Musharraf (retd), federal minister for housing, ambassador to Cuba and president of Bank of Punjab.
An official said the decision to initiate action against some high-profile persons was taken at executive board meeting (EBM) of NAB, presided over by Chairman NAB former Justice Javed Iqbal. The EBM authorized filing of two references, two investigations and 22 inquiries, he added.
He said the meetings authorized an inquiry against Pervez Musharraf over alleged misuse of authority and for possessing assets beyond known sources of income. The NAB EMB also approved an inquiry against Federal Minister for Housing and Works Akram Khan Durrani of JUI-F, Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer Pakistan Housing Authority (PHA) Foundation, Jamil Ahmad Khan, company secretary Zafaryab Khan, and others on charges of misuse of authority. The accused were allegedly involved in illegal allotment of land of PHA foundation at Kuri Road and land allocated for mosques in sector I-12 and I-16 to their blue-eyed person.
Similarly, the anti-graft body also okayed an inquiry against Naeem Uddin Khan, President Bank of Punjab, and others. The accused were allegedly involved in changing prices of shares by misuse of authority. There is also allegation of inside-trading in the bank against the accused, the official said.
He said that NAB meeting also approved an inquiry against Pakistan Ambassador to Cuba Kamran Shafi and others. The EBM also gave go ahead to start action against Shafi under Section 31-A for not cooperating with the NAB investigators, he said.
The official said that bureau also started an inquiry against the officers of Federal Tax Ombudsmen and Federal Board of Revenue (FBR). The accused are allegedly involved in corruption and misuse of authority, he said.
He said the meeting also okayed filing of a corruption reference against Abid Javed Akbar, former chairman National Insurance Company Limited (NICL), management of FDBIL and others. There is allegation against the accused for making Rs100 million illegal investments in FDBIL by misuse of authority which incurred losses of Rs67.056 million to the national exchequer, he said.
He said the NAB meeting also approved an inquiry against former MPA Moonis Elahi and others for allegedly setting up offshore company and allegations of corruption. Similarly, the Bureau initiated inquiry against former Chairman FBR Abdullah Yousaf for setting up an offshore company in Panama and his alleged involvement in corruption, he said.
The official said the meeting authorized a reference against former Chairman Capital Development Authority (CDA) Imtiaz Inyat Elahi, former Member Finance CDA Saeedur Rehman and others on charges of corruption. There are allegations of corruption against the accused in the construction of Culture Complex in Sharkparian which incurred loss of Rs471.498 million to the national exchequer.
The executive board also approved inquiries against former DG Pakistan Railways Muhammad Qureshi, officials of Sindh Social Relief Fund, officials of Provincial Housing Authority KPK, officials of PHA KPK, Additional IG Police Balochistan Dr Mujeeb-ur-Rehman, Chairman Larkana Development Authority Amir Zaib Jatoi, XEN Irrigation department Ghotki Muhammad Shareef Mugheri, director SIDA Ghotki and others.
