Federal Minister for Education and Professional Training, Engineer Muhammad Baligh-Ur-Rehman has said that China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) is a great achievement of the incumbent government to help economic growth, investment and reduction in unemployment. He said this while addressing here at the groundbreaking ceremony of Sir Syed Center for Advanced Studies in Engineering (CASE) Institute of Technology, B-17 Campus, Islamabad, on Wednesday.
"The government succeeded in controlling power shortage, restoring peace and giving a boost to infrastructure development," he added.
The minister said that Pakistan is moving on the path of progress and the future of youth is bright and the country's problems can only be sorted out through education. He further said that education budget has been increased across the country, adding that the budget of Higher Education Commission (HEC) has been increased from Rs 50 billion to Rs 107 billion. Instead of distributing degrees, universities should focus on quality education, he added.
Baligh-Ur-Rehman said that the youth are the biggest asset of Pakistan and the investment in youth is important for the bright future of ccountry. He said that a lot of betterments are attached with the establishment of any educational institution. He said that the present government has greatly focused on education and increased funding for education sector.
The federal minister claimed that the number of out of schoolchildren phenomenally decreased in the country and the enrolment in schools has increased. He said academia-industry link is vital for economic growth and national prosperity. "Our universities should have links with industry." Talking about value of research, Rehman emphasized the need for applied research.
The federal minister said that future of the youth is bright due to CPEC. "This youth is very vital for the success of CPEC where we need skilled manpower to undertake various roles in the future development projects," he added.
He said that character building of the students is also very important. Addressing the students, he said that students will also have to equip themselves with knowledge and become life-long learners along with clarity of purpose before them.
The federal minister said that the government believes in establishing public-private partnership for introducing new concepts and best practices in the country. Rehman also congratulated the team of Engineering Education Trust and CASE for establishing Sir Syed CASE Institute of Technology.
