Qaumi Watan Party (QWP) has expressed serious concern over the ineffectiveness of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Ehtesab Commission and urged National Accountability Bureau and Chief Justice of Pakistan to take notice of the massive expenditures on setting up of the anti-corruption body, hiring of employees, replacement of its director general for awarding punishment to those involved in misuse of provincial government resources.
Speaking at a press conference at Peshawar Press Club on Wednesday, QWP provincial Chairman Sikandar Hayat Khan Sherpao said that the provincial government had established the Ehtesab Commission with tall claims to eradicate the menace of corruption and nab all those involved in misuse of official resources but the present condition of the commission proved that it was mere a drama to befool people in name of accountability.
Flanked by QWP's Secretary Information Tariq Khan, Akhtar Ali, Asad Khan Afridi, Sikandar, who also served as provincial senior minister in incumbent provincial government, said that his party had always taken issues on merit and raised voice against whatever was happening wrong so that the resources of Pakhtuns would not get wasted.
"We don't have objection to setting up of the Ehtesab Commission but the way it is being handled and the huge funds being spent is an objectionable act. "We remember all tall claims of the PTI to eradicate the menace of corruption within 90 days, but the replacement of director general of the body and appointing a relative of a minister as the DG has proved that the claim of accountability is mere hollow slogan and joke with the people.
The Ehtesab Commission was planned to be totally independent and autonomous but it was made an ineffective body when its former director general started inquiries against the provincial ministers," the QWP leader claimed. The QWP, he said, was intensely watching issues in order to secure rights of Pakhtuns and thus it would not remain silent over the poor performance of the Ehtesab Commission as huge amounts were wrongly being used on Bus Rapid Transit (BRT), Billion Tree Tsunami project and other projects and said that the party was seriously pondering to become party in corruption cases against the provincial government.
The lawmaker referred to the claims of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf about legislation and said that without implementation the laws the legislation would be of no use. He said it was duty of Chief Justice of Pakistan, NAB to take notice of the public complaints regarding developmental schemes.
