In what appears to be efforts to repair the strained ties between Pakistan and Afghanistan, the officials of both the countries have agreed that the Taliban should utilise the timely and new peace offer made by Kabul. Pakistan's National Security Adviser Lieutenant-General Nasser Janjua (retd), who was on a visit to Kabul recently, held meetings with numerous Afghan officials in the Afghan capital.
There seems to be a growing realization in Washington and Kabul that the participation of the Taliban in the peace process is critical to obtaining peace in Afghanistan. There is no doubt about the fact that no viable solution to the Afghan issue is possible in the absence of the Taliban. Both the governments are therefore required to admit the fact that the Taliban cannot be equated with Al-Qaeda, Daesh or any other global militant organisation. The Taliban, unlike other outfits, have been waging a just struggle against the foreign occupation of their country.
