President Mamnoon Hussain has said that Pakistan stands for peace in the region and beyond, and gives the same message to those who do not want it. Addressing Pakistan Day parade here on Friday, the President warned India to stop atrocities along Pakistan border, saying Pakistan's desire for peace in the region should not be considered as a weakness.
He said Pakistan, over the years, has played a critical role in maintaining peace across the world and Pakistan's efforts in this regard have been globally acknowledged. Mamnoon said Pakistani troops played a historic role for peacekeeping under the umbrella of the United Nations. He said Pakistan also played an important role for peace and stability in Afghanistan.
The president said the Indian aggression on LoC and working borders poses a grave threat to regional peace and India must stop destabilizing the region. The president asked India to peacefully resolve the long standing issue of Kashmir as per the resolutions of United Nations to pave the way for regional peace and harmony.
Referring to India's cross border violations and gross human rights abuses in Indian Occupied Kashmir (IoK), he said these subversive Indian tactics have put regional peace at stake. The president also greeted the forces from Turkey, Jordan and United Arab Emirates participated in the parade, saying Pakistan's friendship with its allies will prosper in the coming days. This year, it is the first time that a contingent from the UAE military also paraded along with Pakistan armed forces.
On the occasion, the president observed the parade from a jeep. A fly-past of fighter jets including JF-16s, JF 17s, Mirages, AWACs, C-130s and P-3C Orion aircraft of Pakistan Air Force led by Air Chief Mujahid Anwar Khan presented tribute to the president. Mamoon Hussain spoke about the situation in Pakistan, saying peace was destroyed in the country in the last three decades. The president lauded the armed forces as well as the nation for eliminating terrorism from the country under operations Raddul Fasad and Zarb-e-Azb. He announced "Tamgha-e-Azam" for those who rendered sacrifices for restoration of peace in the country.
Hussain paid tribute to the martyrs of the country and advised the officers to fulfil their duties with courage and honesty. Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi, Defence Minister Khurrum Dastgir, Chief of the Army Staff Gen Qamar Javed Bajwa, Air Chief Marshal Mujahid Anwar Khan, Naval Chief Admiral Zafar Mahmood Abbasi, Chairman Joint Chief of Staff Committee Zubair Mehmood Hayat and other civil and military top brass also marked their presence at the ceremony.
The Indian forces have put regional peace at stake by violating human rights in occupied Kashmir and killing innocent civilians across the Line of Control and Working Boundary, the President said. At the beginning of his speech, the president welcomed Sri Lankan President Maithripala Sirisena as the guest of honour, who has flown to Pakistan especially for the occasion. Decorated contingents of Pakistan Army, Pakistan Navy and Pakistan Air Force (PAF) carried out Pakistan Day Parade in Shakarparian Ground.
