The Jamaat-e-Islami, Karachi chapter, has announced to launch a 'no-confidence' campaign against the incumbent city mayor. "The JI will begin a no-confidence campaign against the local bodies' leadership, which has done nothing for the city's development," JI Karachi chapter's chief, Hafiz Naeem-ur-Rehman said at press conference at the Idara Noor-e-Haq Tuesday.
He said the MQM's infighting brought the city on the verge of destruction. He vowed JI cannot leave Karachiites at the mercy of unfavourable circumstances. "Jamaat-e-Islami is the alternative political leadership for people. We will inject new blood into politics through the youth polls," he said, adding that the polls announcement would be made after three days.
Hafiz Naeem said the JI is the best choice for MQM's workers. He said his party continued its campaigns against the wrongdoings of K-Electric and Nadra. He said that the JI would hold a historic 'sit-in' against the Nadra on February 20. "Jamaat-e-Islami will also approach other parties for anti-mayor drive," he said, claiming that the JI had the capacity to resolve public problems as an alternative political platform. He said in the past JI served the public and if given an opportunity they would deliver again.
He said that the MQM's politics spanned over a period of 30 year and now it eventually reached a dead-end. He said that the war of words and blame game between the PPP government and the MQM regarding local bodies' representatives' power and resources brought nothing but sufferings for Karachiites and now situation has turned worse. JI Karachi chapter chief said that the city is faced with the worst sanitation problems and mountains of garbage are visible everywhere with no efforts from the government, filthy sewage water submerged roads and streets.
He urged the public to support the JI in the larger interest of city and citizens.
