Chief of his own faction, Jamiat-e-Ulema-e-Islam Sami-ul Haq (JUI-S), Maulana Sami-ul Haq on Saturday ruled out joining the recently revived Muttahida Majlis-e-Amal (MMA), an alliance of different religious parties. Talking to media persons outside the Election Commission of Pakistan regional office here, after appearance in the commission regarding scrutiny of the nomination papers, JUI-S leader said the party stance is very clear about the joining in the recently revived MMA.
It is noted to mention here that Jamiat-e-Ulema-e-Islam Samiul Haq group had made an electoral alliance with Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) for next general elections, as both PTI and JUI-S will contest next election on their own party symbols. Samiul Haq, who is also Chairman Difa-e-Pakistan Council, said he is considered to join Muttahida Majlis-e-Amal (MMA) a sin, saying that they didn't want to deceive people again on name of Islam. Instead of becoming part of the MMA, Samiul Haq said he would feel better to sit in his house. He said they won't betrayal people again on name of Islam by joining the MMA.
Is it not sin to join hand with the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf, he responded that his party has made alliance with the PTI for only seat-adjustment.
Samiul Haq expressed optimism about his victory in the Senate election. JUI-S chief said they have availed support of four political parties. He said he was elected four times as senator, and remained member for more than 18 year from 1985 to 2008. "If 'God willing', I will elect as member of Senate again", he hoped. He said he always got vote in Senate polls from political parties beyond his party affiliation. He said he spent only Rs 36 for the Senate polls.
JUI-S chief said he would withdraw nomination papers either from general or technocrat seat, submitted for the Senate election. He added his propose and secondary in the nomination papers belonging from four political parties.
Commenting on the protest against killing of Mashal Khan, a student of Journalism department in Abdul Wali Khan University Mardan, Samiul Haq said that the holding protest was completely out of context after the verdict of court in Haripur regarding Mashal lynching case. It is pertinent mention here that workers of some religious parties, which had supported by Jamiat-e-Ulema-e-Islam Fazl, and Jamiat-e-Ulema-e-Islam (S) group staged protest demonstration against the decision of court in Haripur in Mashal murder case.
The Senate election will be held on March 3. As per schedule, the last date for scrutiny of nomination papers was fixed at February 12, while February 15 will be the last date for filing appeals against rejection or acceptance of nomination papers. The appeals will be disposed of by February 17. A revised list of the candidates will be published on February 18, while February 19 will be the last date for withdrawal of candidature. The polling will take place on March 3. According to reports, more than 140 candidates were submitted nomination papers, with the Election Commission of Pakistan for the Senate polls across the country.
