The Taiwan Flour Millers' Association has purchased 77,200 tonnes of milling wheat to be sourced from the United States in an international tender which closed on Tuesday, European traders said. The wheat was bought for shipment in March and April from the US Pacific North West coast in two consignments involving different wheat types, they said.
The first consignment for shipment between March 25 and April 8 involved 22,250 tonnes of US dark northern spring wheat of 14.5 percent protein content bought at $281.47 a tonne FOB US Pacific North West coast, traders said. Seller was Japanese trading house Itochu.
Another 11,150 tonnes of hard red winter wheat of 12.5 percent protein content was bought at $249.21 a tonne FOB from the United Grain Corp, and 5,450 tonnes of soft white wheat with 9 percent protein was bought at $208.89 a tonne FOB also from United Grain Corp, they said.
The first consignment has an additional freight charge of $36.03 a tonne for ocean shipping from the US Pacific North West coast to Taiwan, they said. The second consignment for shipment between April 11 and April 25 was all purchased from Itochu and involved 22,200 tonnes of dark northern spring wheat of 14.5 percent protein content bought at $280.74 a tonne FOB.
This consignment also included 11,250 tonnes of hard red winter wheat of 12.5 percent protein content bought at $249.82 a tonne FOB and 4,900 tonnes of western white wheat with 9 percent protein bought at $203.88 a tonne FOB, they said.
The second consignment also has an additional charge of $36.03 a tonne for ocean shipping from the US Pacific North West coast to Taiwan, they said. In its last tender in January, the association purchased 73,635 tonnes of milling wheat, also to be sourced from the United States.
