Pakistan-Iran Friendship Archery Championship: Israr, Sarah and Abdullah take titles
Israr Khan, Sarah Khan and Abdullah clinched the titles of the men, women and special categories in the Pakistan-Iran Friendship Men and Women Archery Championship held in connection with the 39th National Day of Islamic Republic of Iran here on Friday.
Member Provincial Assembly Yasin Khan Khalil, Consulate General Islamic Republic Iran Muhammad Baqir Beigi, Mrs. Beigi, Director General Sports Junaid Khan, Secretary Pakistan Archery Federation Muhammad Wisal Khan, officials and large number of players and spectators were also present.
Israr Khan claimed first position in the male event by scoring 343 points in a total of 12 shots. Israr Khan recorded almost 100 points by hitting 10-times 10 pointer and also created a record.
The 17-year-old Israr bewildered fellow archers. Israr also hit seven times 8 pointers and made an aggregated total of 343 points.
He was closely followed by another promising Wajahat with 333. Wajahat got second position.
In the female category Sarah Khan won the title after securing 294 points, while Shahnaz claimed 265 points for second position, followed by promising Muskan Afridi with 264 points.
In the third category special archer Abdullah Khan got first position by scoring 295 points including nine 10 pointer, seven times 8 pointer and two times nine pointer. Tanveer got second position with 206 points and Zia Ullah scored 127 points by taking third position.
A special prize of Rs 500 and a gold medal was given to special archer Iltaf Khan who got fourth position in special category.
Speaking on this occasion Consulate General Islamic Republic of Iran H. E. Muhammad Baqir Beigi said that the bilateral tied between Iran and Pakistan are beneficial for the people of both countries. He said that Pakistan-Iran relations are bound by historical and religious linkages. He said, our relations have a historical connection, apart from being neighbouring countries.
He said we both are Muslim countries and have common traditions and relations based on trust and improving our brotherly ties we should work on a sportsperson exchange program. It would benefit both Iran and Pakistan to learn from each other expertise, he said, adding "the sporting tied would be further cemented between the two brotherly countries and such activity would boost the brotherly relations between the two countries."
In his address, DG Sports KP lauded Consulate General of Iran for holding the sports event in connection with the National Day of Iran. He also congratulated the people of Iran for celebrating their national day.
He said there is lot of scope of increasing the sports relations so that the youth of both the countries would get benefit from each other expertise.
Earlier, Yasin Khan Khalil, DG Sports KP Junaid Khan, H. E. Muhammad Baqir Beigi gave away trophies and cash prizes to the winners, runners-up and third position holders.
The first position was awarded Rs 8000/- to the winners, Rs 6000 to the runners-up and Rs 4000 to the third position of all the three categories - male, female and special.
