Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah has said the concerned institutions and Karachiites have to work together to make the Pakistan Super League (PSL) final memorable and historic so that international cricket events should always be held in the city.
He said this presiding over a meeting to review arrangements for forthcoming PSL final match in Karachi. The meeting was attended by provincial ministers for Home, Health, Local Government, Sports, Chief Secretary, DG Rangers, IG Police, Principal Secretary to the CM, Commissioner Karachi, Secretaries for Health, Home, Sports, LG Karachi Mayor, Additional IGP Karachi, representatives of all the intelligence agencies, representatives of PCB, General Manager National Stadium and other concerned figures.
The Chief Minister called for close coordination among stakeholders and integration of all security related departments and agencies. "I have already issued directives for provision of civic facilities," he told the meeting asking all to give importance to public convenience, beautification and festivity atmosphere in the city.
The IG Police, AD Khowaja told the chief minister that he had sent a team to Lahore to observe the security arrangements for international cricket match played between Pakistan and Sri Lanka on October 29, 2017. The same security model with some improvements is being implemented in Karachi.
Murad Shah constituted various committees and assigned them relevant task. The executive committee headed by Chief Secretary will make overall monitoring. The security/intelligence committee include Police, Rangers, Army and intelligence agencies' officers. They will share their intelligence reports among themselves on daily basis. Civic Issues related committee was also formed.
He directed the civic agency which is under local government minister and Karachi Mayor to make arrangements for provision of lighting, drinking water, parking sites, cleanliness and also arrange medical facilities.
The meeting decided that there would be aerial surveillance by helicopters that would be provided by Corps Commander Karachi. The commandoes would be deployed around the stadium and the police would take control inside the stadium.
The chief minister directed Secretary Health to talk to Aga Khan Hospital and Liaquat National Hospital for providing special health services, in case of need.
The CM directed the IG police to identify and declare alternate traffic routes for public convenience. "We have to facilitate each and every person who wants to witness the match at stadium," he said, adding that there should be foolproof security arrangements in entire city, particularly from the airport to hotels and hotels to stadium. He urged this extraordinary security should not cause harassment among citizens. He said that citizens should enjoy the event like a festival, it is their event and they [people of Karachi] would cooperate with law enforcement agencies.
The CM was told there was capacity of 40,000 spectators in the stadium. The law enforcement agencies would make full dress rehearsal on February 11 at 10 am. The chief minister decided to convene another meeting on February 14 to review security arrangement.
