Bahadurabad group of MQM-P continues its efforts to woo Farooq Sattar after the Election Commission of Pakistan reportedly nodded in favour of the latter on the issue of nominating MQM's candidates to contest the Senate elections.
Rauf Siddiqui and Rehan Hashmi visited the house of Dr Farooq Sattar in PIB on Friday night with a view to persuade him for patch-up. However, till the filing of this report, both sides remained tight-lipped if their efforts bore fruit or not? Reports had it they conveyed to Farooq Sattar if he agrees to withdraw support to Kamran Tissori, the Coordination Committee was ready to arrive at his house.
"We are waiting for Farooq Sattar to come to attend the meeting of the Coordination Committee," Faisal Sabzwari said, earlier.
MQM-P's Bahadurabad group led by Amir Khan submitted a letter to the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) Friday to consider its list of candidates for Senate polls. The committee reportedly empowered Dr Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui to issue the tickets to MQM's candidates.
The ECP announced to recognize the MQM's candidates nominated by the Farooq Sattar, head of the MQM-P who is now known as the PIB group due to intra-party rifts. The ECP cited legal clauses and said that only Farooq Sattar can nominate any candidate on behalf of his party (MQM). Earlier, Khwaja Izhar-ul-Hasan said his efforts for mediation between the two factions had failed to produce thaw.
Chances of any breakthrough seem to be dim as both sides remain stick to their nominated candidates. MQM-Pakistan is registered with the Dr Farooq Sattar as head. Sources privy to the election commission reported that a party head is required to sign for the issuance of ticket to any candidate on behalf of his party.
On the other hand, Dr Sattar has offered to quit the political party, voluntarily asking the rivals to run the affairs on their own. However, he hastened to add: "There will be no room for government employees to be a part of coordination committee."
He said a system cannot be run if its leader is not allowed to handle the party affairs. He urged that party's differences should not be discussed in the media and his political experience and wisdom should be trusted.
Amir Khan, Kunwar Naveed and Ameen-ul-Haq as well as other members of Rabita Committee had gone to PIB colony to meet Dr Farooq Sattar and remained there for 70 minutes. However, the MQM-P chief did not meet them because he was asleep. Faisal Sabzwari at a press conference urged Farooq Sattar to take back his decision. He said MQM-P was not for sale. Farooq Sattar's insistence to nominate Kamran Tessori as MQM's candidate to contest Senate elections has irked Amir Khan-led group.
