Some unknown armed men Saturday shot dead a stage actress at her residence in Mardan. According to local police, three armed men entered into actress Sunbul's residence in the city's Maltoon Town area, in Mardan, and opened fire at her. She sustained critical bullet injuries. The actress succumbed to her injuries, the police said. The attackers managed to flee after the attack, while, the police started investigation.
Meanwhile, Mardan police claimed to have recovered a man on Saturday who was kidnapped for ransom from Rawalpindi five months ago. The police said that the kidnapped person identified as Qasim, a resident of Swat, was kidnapped five months ago. They said that Qasim, a resident of Swat, was being shifted to another location in a car when it was signaled to stop on a checkpoint. The kidnappers instead of stopping sped the car and escaped after parking it on roadside in Shergarh area. District Police Office Mian Saeed said that the kidnappers were demanding Rs 140 million from Qasim's family. Meanwhile, the police claimed to have arrested a suspect for his alleged attempt to rape an eight-year old girl at a graveyard in Regi area on Saturday. The police said that a man lodged a complaint that his eight year old daughter went missing while returning home from fields, adding that a team was sent immediately to the area. They added that after 25 minutes of search, the police recovered the girl from a nearby graveyard where she was taken allegedly for rape.
