A large number of lawyers, students, child activists, and members of civil society gathered in front of National Press Club on Friday to raise their voice against the gruesome murder after sexual abuse of seven-year-old Zainab in Kasur. The protesters including doctors and people from different professions were holding placards and chanting slogans. They were demanding justice for Zainab and calling for immediate measures to make sure that children of the country are protected against such heinous crimes in future.
While addressing the protesters, Advocate Shaista Khosa strongly condemned the rape and brutal killing of Zainab and demanded early justice. She also condemned the Punjab government and police for killing two protesters in Kasur who were protesting against this ruthless murder, adding that Punjab government has so far failed in arresting the murderer. She appealed to the Supreme Court of Pakistan to supervise the murder case of Zainab so that the murderer cannot escape the justice.
She said that exemplary punishment should be given to the rapist and murderer to set a precedent that no one in future can dare commit such a heinous crime. She said that incidents of raping and killing children are increasing by each day and alone in district Kasur Zainab's killing is the 12th case of same nature which is of great concern for the people. Shaista Khosa said that the brutal killing of Zainab has horrified every mother and shocked every Pakistani. She said such cases are absolutely unbearable and they will continue to demonstrate till the culprit is brought to justice.
Among the other participants Arif Subhani and Dr Maryam Zulfiqar also addressed the protesters and demanded early arrest of Zainab's killer. PPP's Agha Mohammad Ali Shah while addressing the protesters said that the protest drive will continue till Punjab government arrests the killer.
