Punjab Inspector General of Police (IGP) Arif Nawaz Khan has directed his subordinates to make foolproof security arrangements for the celebrations of Eid Milad-un-Nabi (PBUH). The IGP issued these directions while chairing a video-link conference of District Police Officers (DPOs) and Regional Police Officers (RPOs) at the Central Police Office (CPO) here on Friday to give final touches to the security plan.
In the meeting, the IGP directed the RPOs and DPOs to devise a coordinated security mechanism for all sensitive installations and processions of "category-A" under their supervision besides imparting proper security briefings to field officers about the Standard Operating Procedures (SPOs) through which any untoward eventuality could be averted.
In the meantime, the IGP was informed that over 75,000 security personnel would perform their duties across the province to guard the day. IGP Arif also directed to deploy snipers on roofs of sensitive buildings, especially falling on the route of religious gatherings and processions. It was also decided to deploy security personnel in plain clothes in public gatherings for security purpose.
"All senior police officers should initiate intelligence-based operations in their respective divisions and regions by ensuring that the operations are being carried out under the supervision of the concerned DPO or ROP, so the anti-social elements could be defeated," directed IGP Arif.
The overall situation of law and order of the province including progress in dacoities, abduction, killings and other crimes were also discussed. During the conference, the IGP condemned the killing of AIG KPK Muhammad Ashraf Noor, saying his sacrifices for the country would not be forgotten.
