Chinese Consulate located in Karachi's Clifton locality came under the attack of armed terrorists on Friday in which two policemen lost their lives.

The martyred cops lost their lives during a shootout with the gunmen. Deputy Inspector General (DIG) South Javed Alam Odho confirmed the death of the two policemen. Two civilians, a father and son were also killed in the attack. The security officials gunned down all three of the attackers.

Initially, an explosion and firing were heard at 9:30 am, after which a heavy contingent of police arrived and cordoned off the area. Unidentified assailants tried to enter the Chinese Consulate and opened fire after the security guards at the consulate stopped them, local media reported.

Provincial Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah and Governor Imran Ismail have taken notice of the incident and have sought a report from Sindh Inspector General of Police Dr Syed Kaleem Imam.

Information Minister Fawad Chauhdry also took to Twitter and wrote, “Security officials saved Karachi today from a great conspiracy.” He further said that all the three terrorists were killed during the operation, whereas two policemen gave up their lives while fighting against them.

The minister assured that all the officials at the Chinese Consulate are safe and sound with police and the Rangers in total control of the situation. “We will reach to the depth of this conspiracy,” he added.
