The Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) Ameer for Fata Mufti Abdul Shakoor said that the party will never allow merger of Fata with Khyber Pakhtunkhwa at any cost. Addressing a press conference in Hangu, the JUI-F leader said most people in Fata want a separate province. He said a referendum should be held in Fata to ascertain the views of tribal people on their future.
He said the report presented by the Fata Reforms Committee headed by Sartaj Aziz was against ground realities. Mufti Abdul Shakoor said the JUI-F rejects both the Frontier Crimes Regulation (FCR) and Riwaj Act. He said the JUI-F will oppose any decision imposed on the Fata people without their will. However, he said, the party will support establishment of a separate Fata province.
Later, talking to media persons after addressing a news conference Peshawar Press club here, JUI-F leader Haji Ghulam Ali on Monday said that his party was not against Fata reforms rather wanted to let tribal people decide their own future. He said that JUI-F wanted to see Fata become a separate province but at the same time it would not imposed its decision on people of the tribal areas.
He said that a referendum should be held where tribal people would decide their future, adding that it would prosper fast if given status of a separate province. He said that JUI-F was also in favour of permanent solution of the issue. Citing referendum in Great Britain over separation from European Union, he said that the decision was taken through referendum. "It is up to the people of Fata whether they want to merge with Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, want a separate province or council like Gilgit-Baltistan," he said.
