Alleged illegal allotment: SHC grants bail to CDGK's former-official
The Sindh High Court (SHC) on Monday restrained the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) from arresting former additional EDO Revenue of defunct City District government Karachi (CDGK) Mustafa Jamal Kazi granting him an interim pre-arrest bail.
Kazi, currently a civil servant and waiting for posting in grade 19, is being investigated by the top anti-corruption department of the country in illegal allotment of 530 acres land in Korangi during his tenure in 2010. He was issued a call up notice from NAB directing him to come up and answer its queries.
He approached the SHC through his counsel and sought the pre-arrest bail as according to him he was innocent and the charges against him were baseless. He informed the judges that NAB issued a notice in March 2015 on which he appeared before it and submitted the reply. In March this year, the bureau once again summoned him on which he met NAB director general Sindh but despite his cooperation, his name was inserted in the Exit Control List (ECL), Kazi added.
He submitted that he could be arrested by the NAB with malafide intention, requesting the court to grant him a bail. After hearing the arguments, the SHC bench, headed by Justice Syed Muhammad Farooq Shah, approved Kazi's interim pre-arrest bail till 10th April against a surety bond of Rs 1 million and directed him to cooperate with the investigators. The bench also issued notices to NAB's prosecutor and deputy attorney general directing them to file their respective comments by April 10.
