Special Assistant to the Chief Minister for Housing, Dr Amjad Ali Khan has said that Khyber Pakhtunkhwa is facing shortage of 0.9 million houses with increase of 25000 houses per annum in the province. He disclosed this information while handing over plot allotment letters to the owners of Jarma Housing Scheme, Kohat spread on 300 kanal.
Provincial Minister for Law and Parliamentary Affairs, Imtiaz Shahid Qureshi and Chairman Standing Committee for Information Zainullah Bangash besides other senior officials were also present on the occasion. Speaking on the occasion, Dr Amjad said KP has a shortage of 900,000 houses with an annual increase in demand of 25000 houses in the province.
To address this problem, he said, work on residential housing units in different cities of the province has been expedited.
The Housing Department which was almost non-functional till 2014, has been revived by this government and made it a profitable and revenue generating department of the province, he said. Dr Amjad said Rs 900 billions investment was expected in this sector in the province soon that would change destiny of people besides providing quality housing facilities to people of KP.
A bank financing scheme was being launched to help poor families in building their houses and a significant progress has been made in this regard, he explained. Following handing over the possession of plots to owners of Mulazai and Havalian housing scheme, he said, today the possession of plots was given to plot owners of Jarma Housing Scheme Kohat. Practical work on Peshawar Model Town and Motorway Housing Scheme is being started that would help address the problems of shortage of housing in Peshawar.
