Former Minister for Religious Affairs Hamid Saeed Kazmi was released from the Adiala jail on Wednesday, two days after the Islamabad High Court acquitted him and others in the Hajj corruption cases. The former minister spoke to the media, he said that he is grateful to Allah upon his release. "The current verdict reinstated my trust," he said, adding that he will go to Multan tomorrow for his brother's death anniversary.
He said that his trial continued for six years, although no one accused me before a court. When asked by a journalist, if he would consider re-joining politics, the former minister said that the question was too 'difficult to answer.' Saeed Kazmi was acquitted by the Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Monday. The case was heard by Justice Mohsin Akhtar Kiyani who also issued acquittal orders for former Director General (DG) Hajj Rao Shakeel and former Joint Secretary Religious Affairs Aftabul Islam. The IHC also declared the order of the trial court in the cases null and void. Kazmi and others were accused of hiring a substandard building on exorbitant rent to housing Pakistani pilgrims during Hajj and receiving kickbacks.
