The first-ever women computer centre, established inside the vocational centre in Government Girls High Secondary School (GGSS) under the auspices of Fata Development Authority (FDM) was inaugurated.
Senator Taj Mohammad as chief guest, scores of tribal elders and members of civil society were among the attendants. The chief guest formally cut the ribbon to open the computer lab.
Speaking on the occasion Senator Taj Mohammad said that in this modern time no one denies the importance of computer and it is an opportunity for the tribal women to gain computer literacy as having restrictions imposed from the tribal society, they cannot get computer education from centers, located in the bazaar.
He said that Landi-Kotal was under developed area and imparts vocational learning equivalent to empower the tribal women folk for generating their own sources of income.
He visited display centre and took keen interest in the handicraft and other items locally made by the students in centre.
Earlier, the trainers apprised the visiting guest of the problems being faced by them.
The Senator announced 10 laptops and 50 sewing machines for the computer lab and the vocational centre respectively.
He also pledged for rehabilitation of broken tube wells of the GGHS immediately to resolve scarcity of drinking in the school.
It is to be mentioned here that FDA has set up the centre in 2015 to teach vocation knowledge to the tribal girls and according to Wilson Wazir, the in- charge of the centre, so far 200 local girls have completed their courses.
