The State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) has initiated a survey to collect information on portfolio investment by holdings of residents of Pakistan in equities and debt securities issued by unrelated non-residents as on December 31, 2016.
The SBP said the survey is being conducted in co-ordination with other countries to facilitate international data comparability and the data from the survey will be used in the compilation of balance of payments and international investment position statistics of Pakistan.

According to notification, the State Bank is responsible for compilation of balance of payments statistics and international investment position of Pakistan based on the survey conducted for end-June and end-December position to meet the international requirements.
"The information on holding of residents of Pakistan in equity and debt securities issued by unrelated non-residents required for these statistics is collected through Pakistan''s Foreign Portfolio Investment Survey from all relevant companies in Pakistan in term of SBP Notification No.DS.FI./6-71, dated the 1st June 1971," it added.
The survey comprises two forms and all banks are required to fill Form-I while Form II has to be filled by those companies who are resident in Pakistan and have portfolio investment in a non-resident entity (own equity less than 10 percent or debt securities issued by non-resident entity) as on December 31, 2016.
