State-run educational institutions: 'no data available of minorities' children in KP'

Member Provincial Assembly for minorities Fredrick Azeem Ghauri has said that despite so many years no data could be made available regarding minority children studying at state-run educational institutions of the province. For the right policy making, verified and correct data is mandatory.
He expressed these views during a community meeting here at Peshawar on Sunday. Fredrick Azeem pointed out that every year Education Management Information System (EMIS) of Elementary and Secondary Education Khyber Pakhtunkhwa collects data from all government schools of the province, so that the education department could make policy on the basis of that data, but unfortunately there is no such updated information available regarding non-Muslim students. The annual statistical report 2015-16 carries information about all students including orphans and disabled, teachers and facilities available at these schools; however data regarding minority students is missing.
He said as a result of non-availability of information, policy makers are still struggling to find out the right mechanism to address the issues being faced by the minority communities.
Fredrick further said that there is a provision for non-Muslim students to study ethics books instead of Islamiat, but no local ethics books are available for the students, which is a big question mark on the performance of education department and KP Textbook Board.
Textbook board is unable to estimate the number of students belong to minorities to provide the books. He told the community people that they are patriotic citizens of this country and will remain loyal, but their genuine issues need to be addressed on priority basis.
He demanded of the government to update the data regarding non-Muslim students through education management information system and device an appropriate plan for welfare of non-Muslim students studying at state run educational institutions.
