Famous Urdu poet Nasir Kazmi was remembered on his death anniversary on Thursday. Born on December 8, 1925 at Ambala in British India, Nasir Kazmi was one of the greatest poets of his era. He was educated at Ambala, Simla and Lahore. After the creation of Pakistan, he came to Lahore. Kazmi did some journalistic work with 'Auraq-e-Nau' as an editor and became editor-in-chief of the magazine in 1952.
Later, he was associated with Radio Pakistan, Lahore and other literary publications and organisations. Known for tremendous poetry on themes of happiness, sorrow, romance, life and music, Nasir Kazmi was a man of versatility. Nasir Kazmi started his poetic life in 1940 by following the style of Akhtar Sherani and wrote romantic poems and sonnets. Later he began writing 'ghazals' under the guidance of Hafeez Hoshyarpuri. Nasir Kazmi was proficient in his romantic Ghazals. The way he puts simple words together and addresses his beloved, even the stone-hearted are forced to embrace him.
Ghazals by Nasir Kazmi have also been used in Bollywood songs by Indian musicians. Nasir Kazmi used to write simple and clear poetry which comprised of a small talk but a big message. This particular trait separated him from other poets of his time. The words written by him still look fresh and suitable for this time. He also discussed modern issues in his poems. His last four books were published after his death. He died on March 2, 1972 due to stomach cancer.
