The Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) in Mardan on Wednesday registered a First Information Report (FIR) against terrorist attack on a local court in Charsadda district. The case has been registered under anti-terrorism act, section 302 and other sections. On the other hand, the investigation team has sent suicide attacker's DNA samples to laboratory for tests.
At least seven people including a lawyer were killed and around 20 were wounded when three terrorists carrying hand grenades and AK-47 assault rifles tried to enter the district and session court in Tangi Tehsil the north-western district of Charsadda.
One attacker blew himself up outside the court, while two were killed by policemen before they could enter the building. Today, all educational institutions and business centers were closed in the area while lawyers boycotted the court proceedings across the province to protest against the incident.
Meanwhile, the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa home department and police have sent body parts of the suicide bombers for identification to Lahore, a senior police officer said. Also, the district education officer has declared holiday in all educational institutions in the tehsil, while lawyers have announced 10 days of mourning over the attack on the legal fraternity.
Pakistan has been hit by a wave of suicide bomb attacks claimed by various militant groups in recent days. In response, the government launched a security crackdown killing about 100 terrorists and closing down border crossing with Afghanistan.
Meanwhile, Inspector General of Police Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Nasir Durrani has claimed progress in investigation into Charsadda suicide attack and said that the culprits would be arrested very soon. He was talking to newsmen at Lady Reading Hospital after inquiring health of the injured of Tangi courts attack. He said that the police foiled the attack on courts. He said that progress had been made in investigation into the attack and added that the culprits would be arrested soon.
He said that attackers had come from Afghanistan and everyone knew that who were funding the terrorists in Pakistan. He said that those against CPEC were involved in terror activities in Pakistan. He said that the government has been reminded about the unregistered Afghans living in Pakistan.
Seven people were killed and 22 others injured in a clash between police and the bombers on Tuesday that was claimed by the outlawed Jamaatul Ahrar, a breakaway faction of the banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan. There was a 20-minute firefight at the gates to the courthouse complex in which the suicide bombers reportedly threw hand grenades and opened fire as they tried to enter the court premises. They were held back by police guards on duty and were eventually killed, two by their explosive belts and the third by police.
