National Assembly Standing Committee on Cabinet Secretariat Wednesday rejected "The Shaheed Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto Medical University, Islamabad (Amendment) Bill, 2014" after it was told that the government has decided to introduce a similar bill for legislation. The committee which met here at the Parliament House under the chairmanship of MNA Rana Muhammad Hayat Khan discussed the bill in detail before deciding to scrap it on the government's request.
The committee also discussed proposals of Public Sector Development Programme 2017-18 vis-à-vis Capital Administration and Development Division (CA&DD) and its attached departments. Appreciated the proposals, the committee directed that CADD may endorse its recommendations, especially those concerning availability of clean drinking water and establishment of new hospitals for the residents of Islamabad so that committee could pass them accordingly. The matter was deferred till next meeting of the committee.
The committee members were of the view that dialysis machines, ventilators, MRI, CT scan machines and other diagnosis machines of Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences, Polyclinic, National Institute of Rehabilitation Medicine and Capital Development Authority (CDA) hospitals are inadequate as most of them have either become obsolete or not functioning.
They said that the patients, who are referred to private sector laboratories for their different medical tests, are fleeced. The committee directed the ministry to ensure availability of new medical machines in all government hospitals of Islamabad to cater to the needs of all the patients.
