SAMAA TV's assistant cameraman Taimoor Khan, who was shot dead in North Nazimabad on Sunday night, laid to rest in the Paposh Nagar graveyard amid tears and anguish, here on Monday. His funeral prayer was offered in Orangi Town's Bilal Masjid where Sindh minister of local bodies Jam Khan Shoro, MQM Pakistan's spokesperson Aminul Haq, Jamaat-e-Islami Karachi chief Hafiz Naeemur Rehman and a number of journalists, police officials, human right activist, friends, and relatives attended.
Taimoor, 22, sustained a fatal bullet wound in his neck when the armed motorcyclists opened fire targeting the news channel's Digital Satellite News Gathering (DSNG) van that was on way for the coverage of a grenade attack on a police vehicle near KDA roundabout, North Nazimabad. The assistant cameraman succumbed to the injuries on way to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital due to massive bleeding.
The brutal killing of Taimoor prompted countrywide protest from the journalist fraternity and the human rights organisations. A number of media workers staged demonstration outside Karachi Press Club (KPC) to condemn the attack and to express their sympathy with the bereaved family. The protesters urged the federal and provincial governments to make all out efforts for immediate arrest of the culprits. They expressed concerns over the attacks on the media teams and failure of the police to ensure safety and security of journalists. Provincial Transport Minister Nasir Shah has said the IG Sindh and other forces were working for the arrests of the culprits.
