The death toll of sad incident of boat capsizing in the Indus River has reached to 10 as four more bodies were recovered by the divers of Mallah community and Pakistan Navy team from Indus River, near Balhreji village of Dokri taluka, on Sunday.
Police arrested 4 persons of Mallah community including Malook, Arbab, Hasnain and Essal due to which they stopped rescue work. However, they were released in the evening. They also held protest demonstration.
According to details, a boat carrying about 50 people of Khairpur & Naushehro Feroze capsized in the Indus River three days ago on Friday as it was overloaded. These people were coming to participate in the annual Urs of Pir Muhban Shah.
Dead bodies of 4 people Majid Hisbani, Shahnawaz, Irshad Kharal & Khojo Marwani were found on Sunday. Their heirs took their bodies to their homes for burial.
One Mallah, Ghulam Nabi told that police arrested their 4 men on the pretext that they allowed more people than required to embark on the boat due to which the accident occurred.
District administration officials said that 15 people had drowned out and bodies of 10 people have been recovered so far. 2 came swam to the river bank safely. However, still 3 bodies of Khalid Ghanghro, Dildar Mallah and Gulsher Ali are to be found.
Affected families and media criticized Deputy Commissioner Kashif Ali Tipu because of his non-cooperative behaviour. Abbas Baloch in-charge Commissioner, Larkana Division, told media that he will hold an inquiry about the attitude of the DC.
It may be noted here that Larkana is being run without Commissioner and SSP as Inamullah Dharejo was transferred over 3 weeks ago and SSP Kamran Nawaz has also been transferred out of Larkana and his charge is being looked after by SSP Kambar-Shahdadkot. The rescue operation was abandoned due to darkness & will restart on Monday.
