The National Assembly on Monday unanimously passed a resolution extending solidarity with the people of Indian-held Kashmir in their just struggle for their right to self-determination in line with the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) resolutions. The resolution moved by Minister for Kashmir Affair Barjees Tahir extended political, moral and diplomatic support to the Kashmiris in their just struggle.
The resolution rejects the Indian government's ridiculous claims that Kashmir is an integral part of India, saying when India itself took the Kashmir dispute to the UNSC it had accepted it as an international dispute between two sovereign UN members.
The resolution condemned the state terrorism perpetrated by Indian occupation forces against the unarmed Kashmiri civilians, including women and children, in Indian Occupied Kashmir which has led to martyrdom of thousands of innocent Kashmiris. "The use of pellet guns to deliberately blind unarmed Kashmiris, including women and children, is in clear violation of the international treaties against the use of inhumane weapons of war, including the Geneva Convention of 1949, their Additional Protocols I& II and International Humanitarian Law." The continued use of draconian laws against Kashmiris and recurring curfew in the occupied valley has not only aggravated the miseries of the local population but they are also in clear violation of all international human rights conventions.
The resolution says that this House reiterates its unwavering support to the Kashmiri people's right to self-determination in accordance with the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) resolutions and the UN Charter, including the provision of political, diplomatic and moral support to the people of Indian Occupied Kashmir in the just struggle for self- determination. The resolution further says that this House salutes the courage, valour and commitment of successive generations of Kashmiri people for their ongoing struggle for self-determination as promised to them by the international community in the UNSC resolutions.
According to the resolution, "This House deplores the continuing silence of the section of the international community, including human rights advocates, on the ongoing violence perpetrated by the Indian occupations forces in Indian Occupied Kashmir against unarmed civilians, including women and children and calls on: (i) The UNSC to take concrete steps for the implementation of its resolutions for the right to self-determination for the Kashmiri people as done so in other parts of the world; (ii) the international community to take note of the gross human rights violations in Indian Occupied Kashmir at the hands of the Indian security forces and urges India to respect the human rights of the people of Indian occupied Jammu and Kashmir, including the right to self-determination; (iii) the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) to call upon India to let the United Nations Military Observer Group in Pakistan and India (UNMOGPI) fulfil its mandated tasks as per the UNSC resolutions."
After passage of the resolution, the members of the House strongly condemned the human rights violations perpetrated by the Indian forces in Occupied Kashmir. Taking part in a discussion on Kashmir issue, the members said that India cannot suppress the voice of the Kashmiris through the use of force. They said that the sacrifices of the Kashmiris will not go waste and a day will dawn when Kashmir will be liberated from Indian bondage. They called upon the United Nations and the international community to play their role to stop India from human rights violations in Occupied Kashmir. They said that the Kashmiris should be granted right to self-determination and plebiscite should be held in Kashmir as promised by the United Nations.
