Sindh University Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Fateh Muhammad Burfat distributed laptops among 44 disabled students of bachelor's degree programs under Prime Minister Laptop Scheme here on Saturday. In this regard, a ceremony was held at Department of Fresh Water Biology and Fisheries, University of Sindh wherein the focal person of laptop scheme Professor Dr Wazir Ali Baloch, Senior Transport Officer Syed Sajjad Hussain Shah, Dr Ameer Ali Abro and others participated.
Dr Burfat on the occasion inaugurated the ceremony by giving away laptops to 7 special students while the remnant laptops were given to 37 disabled male and female students studying in different disciplines including criminology, mathematics, fresh water biology & fisheries & chemistry.
The vice chancellor thanked Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif for approving a big quantity of laptops for the students of Sindh University. "I again request the PM to grant more laptops for Sindh University so that we may give away the same to remaining poor students", he added.
He said Sindh University was catering the academic needs of over 32000 students which he said were an immense number of students coming from various part of Sindh adding that the majority of students could not buy laptops due to poverty.
Dr Burfat said he was working on academic exchange of students and scholarship programs but majority of the students was lacking the passport and personal bank accounts. "Under such circumstances how would the students be able to get exchange and scholarship programs when they have no any required document and bank accounts", he questioned.
He advised all the students to get their passports made and personal bank accounts opened so that they may get academic opportunities.
The VC said it was the wisdom and vision of the Prime Minister of Pakistan Mian Muhammad Nawaz Sharif who introduced laptop scheme for the students and scholars of the universities in the country to promote the research culture in the campuses.
It may be noted that a total number of 7176 laptops have been distributed in first phase under PM Laptop scheme started in 2014.
Afterwards 3517 laptops have been given away to the meritorious students out of 3661 laptops in second phase. Of remaining 144 laptops, a total number of 44 laptops were given to special students on Saturday.
