Pakistan Awami Tehreek Chief Dr Tahirul Qadri has said that the Kashmir issue is not just about someone's ego rather it is about basic human rights of 20 million people whose religious, political, cultural and economic future is at stake. In a telephonic address to PAT's Azad Kashmir leaders in connection with Kashmir Day, he expressed solidarity with the Kashmiri brethren and said no one can deprive them of their basic rights by force.
He said solution to Kashmir lies only in following UN resolutions. The Kashmiris are the main stakeholders in the dispute and they should have the right to self-determination. They want the United Nations pledges to be fulfilled in letter and spirit, he said.
Qadri said it was regretful that the past and present governments did nothing on the Kashmir issue. He said these governments have failed to play their role effectively on political as well as diplomatic fronts. The Kashmir cause has suffered a lot because of bilateral agreements like Tashqand, Shimala and Lahore declaration.
He said the Kashmiris have rendered unprecedented sacrifices and they have kept alive the freedom struggle with their blood. He called upon the UN and world leaders to play their role in getting the Kashmiris their basic rights and also prayed for the success of the cause.
