International Fahad Khawaja and Kainat Malik clinched the titles of the Iran's National Day Table Tennis Boys and Girls singles played here at Consulate General Peshawar premises on Friday.
Member National Assembly Hamid Ul Haq, former Sports Minister Syed Aqil Shah, Consulate General Mr. Muhammad Baqir Beigi, Secretary General Pakistan Table Tennis Federation Kifayat Ullah Khan, National Coach Naveed, officials, players and spectators were also present.
In the final of the boys singles Fahad Khawaja, a silver medallist of the South Asian Games, defeated his strong rival and younger brother Ummam Khawaja in a marathon five sets battle, the score was 11-13, 10-12, 11-9, 11-9 and 13-11.
In the ladies singles international Kainat Malik defeated Nimra Rehman, another international player, by 3-1, the score was 11-8, 9-11, 11-9 and 11-7. Nimran Rehman gave a tough time to Kainat, especially in the second and third set, otherwise Kainat dominated the proceedings.
Kainat Malik, bronze medallist of the Asian Table Tennis Championship held in India, played well and first she defeated Iqra and then Nimra Rehman to reach to the final. Thus Kainat Malik marched into victory. Iqra defeated Saira Khan of Swabi in straight set by 3-0, the score was 11-9, 11-8 and 11-9 and got third position.
In the special category Abdullah Jan defeated international Ibrahim by 3-1, the score was 12-10, 11-8, 7-11 and 11-9 while Ihsan Danish outclassed Iltaf by 3-1, the score was 11-8, 11-9, 6-11 and 11-9. A total of 40 players 16 in boys, 12 each in the girls and special players took part in the Championship organised by Consulate General of Iran in Peshawar in connection with the 38th National Day of Iran. At the end, the guests gave away trophies and cash prizes. The winners of each of the three categories awarded Rs 7000, runners-up Rs 5000 and third position Rs 3000.
